  • COLLIN FRY DISTINGUISHED ARTIST

Collin Fry

Collin had an early start as a technical artist in the Air Force. He studied at The American Academy of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and kept painting during a career in Chicago as illustrator, graphic designer and art director. Then on retirement, turned to full time pastel and oil work.  Attending IAPS conventions and taking workshops with masters like Doug Dawson, Frank Federico and Gil Dellinger inspired him. Collin found plein air painting in Arizona, Michigan, New Mexico, France and Italy to be a great experience. His work has been featured in American Artist and The Pastel Journal. He has taught many workshops and programs, and authored over 20 feature articles for art magazines. He is a charter member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, and signature member of The Pastel Society of  New Mexico and Arizona Pastel Artists. His paintings are in many private and commercial collections.

"I try to explore in painting landscapes, the essence of a scene, the rhythm, something unique about it, in addition to the effects of light, dark and detail. In a portrait or figure, to get 'behind the eyes', revealing aspects of personality, attitude and spirit, as well as a likeness."
